Ensuring that your roof is in good condition is not only for the sole reason of protecting you from the elements. If your roofing is compromised, it also poses the risk of structural damage to your home. Therefore, ignoring the signs of impending repairs can lead to you incurring exorbitant costs in residential maintenance costs. It should also be noted that some forms of damage cannot be remediated by professional roofers and would require roof replacement. So how do you know if your structure is in dire need of re-roofing?

The roofing shingles are curling

There are two telltale symptoms that you should be on the lookout for that would indicate your shingles are curling. The first symptom is I the middle of the shingles starts to rise, which is referred to as clawing. The second symptom is if the edges of the shingles begin to curl upward, which is known as cupping. Both cupping and clawing are detrimental to your roof as they allow for water ingress. If these shingles are not replaced in time, the base of your roof will start to rot and will weaken your entire roofing structure. If the curling is extensive, it would be advisable to opt for re-roofing.

The roofing shingles are non-existent

Another symptom of a severely damaged roof is if the shingles are missing. One of the common cases of missing shingles is breaking and crumbling, which would cause the eventual disappearance o the shingles. On the other hand, your roofing shingles could also go missing if you experience severe stormy weather that would cause them to be blown right off your roof. If the missing shingles are few, you could get away with replacing them. Nevertheless, it should be noted that it could be heard to match the exact colour of your current shingles since they are bound to have changed their appearance due to weathering. However, if there are significant parts of your roof that are without shingles, it would be best to opt for roof replacement, which will ensure that the possibility of the remaining shingles succumbing to disrepair is eliminated.

The roofing shingles are coated in moss

In some cases, you may have no control over how nature encroaches on your roofing. One of the ways this can happen is if moss and algae gradually envelop your shingles. The moss and algae may make your roofing look rustic, but in reality, they are steadily composing the integrity of the shingles, which makes them easily breakable. It would be prudent to opt for re-roofing and ensure that you have the shingles chemically treated to avoid future growths.
